Wednesday, September 14, 2005The Lavender Cabaret"If the people want it, we'll give it to them..." From the tawdry traditions of the brothers Minsky, to the technological sleaze of The Reverend Franky Vivid comes a mix of Las Vegas, European cabaret and Burlesque unlike anything you've ever seen - the Lavender Cabaret's Miss Michelle L'amour and Her Fabulous Sugarbabies. The past couple of decades have filled our eyes with so many off-the-rack pornvertisements that it seems as though very little is sexy anymore. The phrase that comes to mind is "why buy the cow when you can have the milk for free?", but it's more like "why buy the cow when you can have all the milk you want as long as you buy whatever the milk is selling?" Don't get us wrong, skin is good. But when you can see more cleavage in a tortilla chip ad than you used to be able to see in a strip club, something's gotta give. People used to see girlie shows because it was where the real entertainment was. It was the real edge being cut by entertainment visionaries. It was sexy, it was sleek, it was sleazy. That's why they flocked to Vegas by the thousands. But now people are turning back to it because they've tired of being hit in the face. And in that revival we are finding an undulating underground of things far sleazier than previously imagined. But a sleaze of this sort is somehow classy, somehow more Fosse than Flynt. So here we are, taking our cue from the British Blondes and Busby Berkeley...the Minsky's and Ms. Mansfield...and bringing with it a modern edge you won't see in any other revue. We seek to bring the attitudes of the great girlie show pioneers and frame it in our modern setting. With Lavender, you'll be at once familiar and feel like you're seeing something new at the same time. 2004
