Reginald Primrose

Hippie love child, punk teenager, pre mid-life crisis victim

I shall the effect of this good lesson keep, As watchman to my heart. But, good my brother, Do not, as some ungracious pastors do, Show me the steep and thorny way to heaven; Whiles, like a puff'd and reckless libertine, Himself the primrose path of dalliance treads, And recks not his own rede.

Bella Beretta

Seattle

"What good is famous if it's not INFAMOUS?" A volatile moltov cocktail of glitter and gutter built with just as much Tennessee Williams as Gypsy Rose Lee Bella Beretta has taken aim and carved out a bullet riddled niche as neo-burlesques most notorious bad girl. Founder and former Benevolent Dictator of The Gun Street Girls of Seattle. In 1999 Miss Beretta brought a different vision of glamour and sought to push the limits and definition of burlesque and what it encompassed. Infusing her performances with a uncommon array of cultural references-ranging from Tom Waits and Firewater to the art of Edward Hopper and Alphonse Mucha, Miss Beretta mines from the past, takes from now and looks to the future. Now a resident of Hollywood Miss Beretta assumes her role as "The Shooting Starlet" continuing to wave the banner of "D.I.Y. T&A" for the opera drunks and circus punks and bring spectators a spectacle that is just as much fairy tale as it is pulp fiction. Vintage Zeitgeist www.bellaberetta.com

Fritzi Collins

NYC

Like the burlesque revival, performer Fritzi Collins has resurfaced. This fine dame, a titillating innovator of the whole "stripping as high art for low brows" attracted the eye of the infamous Tom Collins. The scandal of the notoriously unattached Fritzi saying "yes" to Tom - paired with their lavish Vegas wedding - inspired the cocktail bearing Tom's name. After the wedding, this wicked Svengali forbade his burlesque bride to perform. Fritzi spent years locked behind a white picket fence deep in the suburbs, severed from the stage and her adoring public. While everyone thought she had turned her back on burlesque, the frustrated flower drank, took pills and with the help of an unsuspecting slew of gardeners, pool cleaners and Culligan men, orchestrated a devil's workshop of routines based on shattered romantic ideals. True to burlesque tradition, Fritzi prefers to work with live musicians. Only live music conjures the magic that is Fritzi Collins. She has teamed up with sultry chanteuse Lex Grey to punctuate her act with the power of the BLUES. You must experience Fritzi Collins. There's nothing like seeing her peel off that sugar coating, revealing the earthy spice that is pure woman. A New Yorker, Fritzi performs at venues throughout New York City.

Sparkly Devil is Detroit's glittering diamond in the rough, a sparkling burst of energy pulsating through the ashes of urban decay. A whiplash collision of pinup class, vintage sass and that patented Deee-troit attitude, Sparkly has been twirling her tassels and hypnotizing audience across the continent for five years now. With her Cheshire cat grin and knock-em-dead curves, you won't know which set of cheeks to pinch!

Sparkly performs constantly in Detroit and beyond, and has appeared at Miss Exotic World 2003, the Las Vegas Rockaround, the third annual Tease-o-Rama in Los Angeles, Burlesk Goes North in Toronto, and last year's New York Burlesque Festival. She's appeared in the LA Weekly, Venus magazine, Juxtapoz magazine, Style Monte Carlo of Monaco, London's The Mirror, on CBS New This Morning, and is also a featured starlet in the new burlesque rock 'n' roll film Broad Daylight.

Sparkly Devil is Detroit's glittering diamond in the rough, a sparkling burst of energy pulsating through the ashes of urban decay. This mischievous minx has been twirling her tassels and hypnotizing audience across the continent for four years now, and her patented blend of saucy sex appeal and goofy humor is the epitome of classic vaudeville. With her Cheshire cat grin and knock-em-dead curves, you won't know which set of cheeks to pinch! Last year, this darling Devil appeared at the Miss Exotic World Burlesque Pageant (where she promptly passed out from heatstroke), the Las Vegas Rockaround, and the third annual Tease-o-Rama. She's thrilled to make her debut at New York Burlesque Fest, and thanks her wonderful boyfriend in advance for letting her break a bottle over his head on stage. For more info, visit

Sexual revolution fully realized

Photos like the one above provide us with another example of the realization of the sexual revolution's goals. Fortunately, equality in sexuality is becoming more and more the norm with each successive generation. The woman in the photo feels liberated enough to assume an assertative role. The man feels confident enough to allow the woman to assume that role. Positive body acceptance is revealed by their lack of clothing. Confidence in sexual behaviour is exhibited by their openess to display their behaviour in public. The positive consequences for the couple are a continuing development of a healthy mutual sexual life. Negative consequences only occur to other people uncomfortable with this realistic, positive and honest behaviour. The religious community attacks this behaviour because it threatens the continuation of their specific traditions and the religion itself.

Black Cat Burlesque

Boston

Raising pulses (and the dead) since the summer of 2003, Black Cat Burlesque is dedicated to putting the BUMP back into the night! Using the framework of classic burlesque to mine the depths of their twisted psyches, this scream team blends striptease thrills and spookshow chills to push the boundaries of the art form and explore the dark, cobwebbed corners of neo-cabaret. Conceived in the back of a hearse by that tassel-twirling dynamo (and former mortician), Miss Firecracker and monster man-at-large, illustrator Mister Reusch, Black Cat Burlesque is quite possibly the only burlesque troupe to build its ranks in a funeral home… During a particularly portentous embalming, our devilicious Miss F met fellow undertaker J. Cannibal. Over blood and formaldehyde, he revealed his nasty little secret: namely, a penchant for voodoo and one Miss Mary Widow-horror movie obsessed choreographer and gore-gore girl extraordinaire. Thus, our creepy coven was complete and what ensued has left a trail of broken hearts and resurrected corpses across the Eastern seaboard. Specializing in , but not limited to horror, and B-movie themed acts, BCB's cauldron bubbles over with influences that include: Famous Monsters of Filmland, Edgar Allen Poe, Russ Meyer, Hammer studios, animation, comic books, the Misfits, Phantom of the Paradise, theatre of cruelty, Maxfield Parrish, Alice Cooper, German expressionism, Grimm fairy tales, European folklore, giant Japanese monsters, Edward Gorey, Monty Python, Grand Guignol, masked wrestling, musical theater, Scooby Doo, the candy aisle, and of course, mortuary science. We have produced the now infamous burlesque horror spookshows at the Coolidge Corner Theater, Spooks A-Poppin' and the Spookalicious Horror Sideshow for the Annual 13 hour Horror Marathon. Along with DJ Vinny, we have also co-produced the sixties themed Zombies A Go-Go, Born to be Wild and the Russ Meyer Tribute nights at the Milky Way Boston. We are currently sequestered in our underground laboratory, hell bent on making Mister Reusch's ghoulish paintings FLESH for an upcoming retrospective of his work in October and an entirely Edgar Allen Poe themed spookshow for the Halloween season. Our own Famous Monsters have appeared in venues and events such as: NYC Burlesquefest 2003, 26th Annual SciFi Marathon, NELA Fetish Ball, the Slipper Room, Garters & Lace Convention, LadyFest DC; and with such acts as Jonathan Richman, the Groovy Ghoulies, the O'Debra Twins, Beat Science, 4 Piece Suit, Downbeat 5 and Electrolux. BCB has been featured in the Boston Globe, the Boston Herald, Pitchforkmedia.com, Stuff@Nite, the Weekly Dig, and some particularly nefarious pages of the Necronomicon.
