Saturday, April 02, 2005Miss AstridAstrid Von Voomer was born in Berlin in 19--. Her mother Zsa Zsa, was a Bavarian Princess, her father a dwarf and a carny. Astrid was a twin until the tragic death of her sister, Ilsa, in an arson fire set in their home. After years of troubled homelife Astrid ran away from home at the age of 12 with her first love Fernando. Fernando & Astrid traveled through Europe, eventually landing in France. In France they joined the famed Cirque de Lune Circus where they learned and mastered the art of trapeze. Within five years, Astrid had become the headlining act at the circus and the most famous circus act of the century. Then at the apex of her career tragedy struck. Romeo Zuccolo, a lover of Astrid's and a knife thrower in the circus, took revenge upon her by purposely plunging his knife into her head during a live performance. She survived the savage attack, but it caused the loss of one eye, thereby destroying her career as a trapeze artist. Astrid was only 20 years old. When she murdered Romeo a year later the courts ruled it a justifiable homicide. For several years Astrid plunged into a deep depression. There was a succession of husbands. A one night stand with long-time friend Siegfried Fischbacher (of the famed Siegfried & Roy) produced a son Adolph (who later changed his name to Rudolf). It was a dark time in her life until she met the man who was the love of her life: Sammy Davis, Jr. It was Davis who helped Astrid recover from the loss of her eye and set her on a new career path. Had it not been for Davis' love and guidance, Astrid claims, she would never have become the international singing legend that she is today. After years on the European circuit, playing in the largest halls and palaces, Astrid decided to move into so-called "charity work". Wherever she feels people are most desperately in need of entertainment she travels. She has brought scaled down versions of her shows to the smallest venues throughout the United States. Her goal, was and is, to be the "Mother Theresa of Entertainment". 2004 Miss Astrid of The Va Va Voom Room NYC
Miss Astrid became an international star as the headlining trapeze act of the Cirque De Lune. After her notorious accident which caused the loss of one eye, she retired from show business and became a recluse. After much public speculation, her triumphant return came in a series of one-woman shows at the Moulin Rouge. When her album, Live From The Moulin Rouge! went triple platinum her new career as a chanteuse was cemented.
